Accreditation by JCAHO

ELIH has been awarded the
Gold Seal of Approval™

JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) is nationally recognized as a symbol of quality care and patient safety.

To earn and maintain The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years. (Laboratories must be surveyed every two years.)

Who is JCAHO?

The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.

What Does JCAHO Accreditation Mean to Me?

Accreditation means that this facility has volunteered to undergo a challenging, comprehensive evaluation. It has made a significant extra effort to review and improve the key factors that can affect the quality and safety of your care.

Accreditation by The Joint Commission is considered the gold standard in health care.

Specially trained health care professionals who are experts in the field personally visited this facility to conduct a review that monitors how well the staff:

  • Provides a safe environment for your care
  • Educates you about the risks and options for your diagnosis and treatment
  • Protects your rights as a patient, including your privacy rights.
  • Evaluates your condition, before, during and after diagnosis and treatment
  • Protects you against infection
  • Plans for emergency situations.

The fact that this facility has gone through this evaluation shows an extraordinary commitment to provide safe, high quality care and a willingness to be measured against the highest standards of performance.

How Does JCAHO Measure Quality?

Joint Commission standards address the organization’s level of performance in key functional areas, such as patient rights, patient treatment, and infection control. The standards focus not simply on an organization’s ability to provide safe, high quality care, but on its actual performance as well. Standards set forth performance expectations for activities that affect the safety and quality of patient care. If an organization does the right things and does them well, there is a strong likelihood that its patients will experience good outcomes. The Joint Commission develops its standards in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts, purchasers, and consumers.

Reduce Your Risk For Stroke
A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts, stopping blood flow. Without blood and the essential oxygen it carries, the affected part of the brain starts to die. The region of the body controlled by the damaged area of the brain can’t work properly.
