Mr. Robert J. Syron, CEO/President, Peconic Landing, Inc.
Robert J. Syron specializes in startup, turn-around, and change management needed to transform failing CCRCs and nursing homes into prosperous, thriving organizations. He believes in a mission-based, resident focused leadership style that draws on strengths of strategic planning, positioning, process improvement, leadership coaching and development.
Mr. Syron currently serves as President and CEO of Peconic Landing, a not-for-profit CCRC on the East End of Long Island, where he has been since 2003. He has worked in the senior services sector for over 27 years, serving as Administrator for multiple skilled nursing care centers and as Executive Director of a CCRC before working as a consultant in the industry. His business acumen and ability to transform organizations into thriving communities with a vibrant workplace culture led him to collaborate with national companies consulting on CCRCs around the country.
His aptitude for turn-around execution helped Peconic Landing from defaulting on its debt, enabling the organization to repay $73 million over twelve years and banking nearly $30 million in reserves. Under his leadership, Peconic Landing has been named one of U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Nursing Homes” for the sixth consecutive year, the first New York State CCRC to obtain a CARF-CCAC Person-Centered Care certification, and an award-winning establishment for innovation and best practices. In 2012, the organization was rated one of the Top 10 “Best Companies” to work for in New York State by the state Society for Human Resource Management. LeadingAge awarded Peconic Landing the Work Place Distinction Award in 2014. Mr. Syron is also the recipient of the James W. Sanderson Memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership by LeadingAge NY, and in 2016 he received the Corporate Citizenship Award for Leadership Excellence for a Nonprofit from Long Island Business News.
Mr. Syron holds a B.S. in Health Science and a Masters in Public Administration from SUNY Brockport. A licensed Nursing Home Administrator in NY, he is also a professionally Certified Nursing Home Administrator from the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) and Certified Aging Services Professional (CASP) from the Coalition for Leadership in Aging Services. Mr. Syron serves on the LeadingAge New York Services Board, the CCRC state cabinet for LeadingAge New York and other boards in his local town.
