Emergency Evacuation During Hurricane Sandy

NEW ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT FOR PROSTATE CANCER

Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. About 1 in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Symptoms include frequent or painful urination, blood in the urine, sexual dysfunction, swollen lymph nodes in the groin, and pain in the pelvis, hips, back, or ribs. Prostate cancer commonly occurs in men over age 50. The likelihood of developing prostate cancer doubles if there is a family history.

Scott M. Press, MD is a board certified urologist at Eastern Long Island Hospital and Peconic Bay Medical Center with office hours at the Medical Village in Greenport. A new prostate cancer support group will meet at the Southold Library on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month beginning on August 20, 2012 from 6 – 7:30 pm. Reservations are not required.

ELIH FOUNDATION RECEIVES FUNDS IN MEMORY OF JOHN ROMANELLI

Cross Sound Ferry and members of the Romanelli family gathered at Eastern Long Island Hospital today to make a special presentation to the Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation in memory of the late John Romanelli. The $14,000 donation was raised from Cross Sound Ferry’s annual Fireworks Benefit Cruise which took place on July 7th of this year. The donation to the ELIH Foundation is in the name of John Romanelli, who passed away earlier this year after an accident at the Southold fuel supply company he owned. Besides owning Burt’s Reliable, Mr. Romanelli was a former Southold Town Councilman and was well known throughout the community for his kind nature and philanthropic activities. “Together with other donations received in memory of John, and this generous donation by Cross Sound Ferry—ELIH has half the funds needed to secure an emergency temperature system called—Arctic Sun. This equipment is used to lower the core temperature of certain cardiac patients and meet a new protocoal endorsed by the American Hospital Association (AHA)," states Paul J. Connor III. “ELIH is committed to raising the balance of the funds and dedicating this lifesaving equipment in memory of John Romanelli,” he adds.
