Eastern Long Island Hospital announced today the selection of Janet Jackowski, LMSW, CASAC, Behavioral Health Supervisor for Quannacut Addiction Services, as the 2009 recipient of the prestigious Laura Goodale Award.
Established by lifelong Eastern Long Island Hospital supporter Carl E. Vail, Sr. and the Southold-Greenport Rotary, the Laura Goodale Award recognizes a caregiver who embodies the spirit of Laura Goodale. Laura began her career in 1918 when ELIH was just a three-story Victorian Mansion. With a service record of 42 years, Laura was so extraordinary that her memory still lives on in the hearts and minds of the community. Just like Laura, Janet is "dependable, conscientious and caring—an inspiration to patients and staff alike."
"Behavioral health is a highly specialized area," states D. Patricia Pispisa, Vice President of Patient Care Services. "It calls for exceptional understanding of the psychological and social needs of each patient. As a social worker and a credentialed alcoholism counselor, Janet is well-suited for this specialized area of healthcare," notes Pispisa. "She is a valued member of the Quannacut team," she adds.
"Janet is extremely dedicated," states Paul J. Connor, III, President and CEO. "True to the spirit of Laura Goodale, she has a wonderful ability to motivate patients and responds with empathy to patient concerns. She works effectively with nurses, physicians and fellow staff members to help patients stay focused on recovery and set attainable goals."
Janet Jackowski has been at Eastern Long Island Hospital since 1996. She has been in her current position since 2006. She lives locally with her husband, Michael and their 11 year old daughter, Maya.
Eastern Long Island Hospital will present Janet with the award at The Soundview Restaurant in Greenport on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at a dinner held in her honor hosted by the Southold and Greenport Rotary Clubs.
Both clubs will make a joint contribution to the Annual Fund for Eastern Long Island Hospital as a tribute to Janet for her dedication to her profession and to the health and well-being of the patients she serves. Eastern Long Island Hospital announced today the selection of Deborah Conrardy, RN BSN, MA as the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Laura Goodale Award.
Eastern Long Island Hospital will present Debbie, a nurse at ELIH for 22 years, with the Laura Goodale Award at a dinner held in her honor. The dinner hosted by the Southold and Greenport Rotary Clubs will be held at The Soundview Restaurant, Greenport on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.
Both clubs will make a joint contribution to the Annual Fund for Eastern Long Island Hospital in honor of Debbie for her dedication to the nursing profession. Tickets are $25 each, and includes a choice of dinner. Contact Community Relations, 477-5164 for ticket reservations by April 25th.

Debbie received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at SUNY Brockport and a MA in Community Health Education at Adelphi University. She resides in Southold with her husband, Richard and their two teenage children.

The Laura Goodale award was established in 1986 by lifelong ELIH supporter Carl E. Vail, Sr. and the Southold-Greenport Rotary. Laura Goodale began her career at ELIH in 1918 when the hospital was just a three-story Victorian Mansion. Although, she had no formal training as a nurse, her service record of 42 years was so extraordinary that her memory still lives on in the hearts and minds of the community.

SOUTHOLD AND GREENPORT ROTARY CLUBS HONOR ELIH NURSE
Mary Ellen Stevens, RN, a nurse in the Emergency Room at Eastern Long Island Hospital since 1998, was the guest of honor at the 2006 Laura Goodale Award dinner hosted by the Southold and Greenport Rotaries at The Soundview Restaurant, Greenport in June.
As a tribute to the award, which embodies the spirit of a caring and giving nurse, Southold Rotary President, Michael Commando and Greenport Rotary President Craig Richter, presented Paul J. Connor III, President and CEO with checks totaling $3,000.00, the proceeds from their annual golf tournament, as a donation in Mary Ellen's name to Eastern Long Island Hospital for patient services.
